Ha, not really!
The last two decades has seen an explosion in the field of medicine called Anti-Aging which studies what causes aging and how to treat it. A better description might be slow, healthy aging.
Years ago, I watched a Ted Talk on aging where the expert stated most people practicing healthy lifestyles live about a decade or so longer than those who do not. More importantly, the quality of life of those having healthy daily habits only deteriorates the last couple of years of their life compared to those who have poor daily health habits and suffer over 10 years of poor life quality. Think of this, that is a difference of over twenty years of quality life by practicing healthy living. A more contemporary way to look at aging is that there are so many diseases that are really just the byproduct of aging. Our goal is to slow down the aging process.
The ways to slow down the aging process are familiar ones and listed below:
Diet
Exercise
Social interaction and community
Mind Body Health
Sleep
Supplements
In future blogs we will take a deeper look into the above list, so we better understand their importance and how to intervene appropriately. Surprisingly, many of these changes are not difficult nor costly.
